FinTech Australia announces new categories as it celebrates a decade of fintech in Australia

Entries open for the Finnie Awards

Four new awards have been added to Australia’s largest celebration of success in the fintech industry, promoting excellence in green finance and AI.

This year’s Finnie Award will have a total of 23 categories and will be held at Doltone House in Jones Wharf Sydney on Thursday June 26, 2025.

Brand new categories include:

  • Excellence in Green Fintech and Sustainability Initiatives

  • Giving Back to the FinTech Community

  • Most Innovative Application of AI in Finance

  • Most Innovative Product or Service

To make room for the new awards, several specialised categories have been condensed into a single award.

“This is our largest refresh of the award categories to date” FinTech Australia CEO Rehan D’Almeida said.

“It reflects the direction we’re heading as an industry, as advances in both AI and impact-related fintech become more prominent within the ecosystem.”

“As a result of this shake-up, we urge all interested fintechs to double check the categories and criteria before entering -- especially companies who enter the awards each year. Some more niche categories will now be more competitive as they’ve been expanded.

“For instance, some that only consider B2B innovation in one specialist area, will now consider both B2B and B2C innovation within the same category.”

Entries for the ninth Finnie Awards opened February 1 and close March 25, 2025. Finalists will be announced on Monday April 28. Visit the event website at (www.thefinnies.org.au) for further information on how to submit your entry.
