Local telematics insurtech KOBA Insurance announces the launch of its EV insurance product.

KOBA Insurance will launch a dedicated EV insurance product to cater for the growing Australian EV market in March 2024.

Beginning with Tesla, KOBA will provide one of Australia’s first connected, comprehensive EV insurance policies to meet the needs of EV drivers; including features such as Choice of Repairer option, EV Car Hire option, Charging equipment cover and Battery Health checks.

“EV is a fast-emerging market here in Australia and with that comes an opportunity for a bespoke EV insurance product. As an insurtech with telematics at the heart, KOBA has been working closely with the EV community to build a product to meet the needs of EV drivers.” said Andrew Wong, Founder of KOBA.

Featuring at the upcoming Everything Electric event in Sydney, KOBA is giving EV enthusiasts the chance to input into the product roadmap to continue to design an EV insurance experience that is meaningful to them.

“Most insurers offer coverage for EV’s, however their EV products tend to be the same as traditional comprehensive products, which don’t really leverage the benefits that an EV car offers, nor offer services unique to EV ownership. That’s where our product will differ. We’ve worked directly with the EV community to fill in the gaps and will continue to work together to evolve the EV insurance experience. KOBA is building an EV policy and service designed by EV drivers. And that’s what we’re most excited about.” continued Wong.

KOBA Insurance is underwritten by Pacific International Insurance; a partnership that combines Pacific’s extensive experience in building unique insurance offerings, with KOBA’s innovative approach to pioneer data-driven and user-based approach to car insurance in Australia.

About KOBA

Aussie insurtech KOBA launched in November 2021 offering a very different approach to car insurance. Users pay an upfront fixed cost to have their car insured while it’s parked and then pay for the distance they drive. By connecting to the car’s onboard computer, KOBA links the car’s driving data to a smartphone to automatically calculate driving distances and charges a per-kilometre rate for each trip.

KOBA also works with Uber Carshare to offer insurance designed for people who rent their car on the car sharing platform and are looking for coverage outside of bookings.

KOBA is the proud recipient of the 2023 WeMoney winner of “Best for Value (Car Insurance)” and “Outstanding Customer Service (Car Insurance), 2022 Finder award for “Best Insurtech Innovation” and 2022 Fintech Australia winner for “Excellence in Insurtech”.
