FinTech Australia launches Finnies 2021, announces two new awards

FinTech Australia is calling for entries for the fifth annual Finnies awards, announcing two new prizes for the sector. The event will be held at Forum Melbourne on June 9. The Excellence in Open Data and Hall of Fame will be launched this year to mark a shift in the industry and its growing maturity. The new Excellence in Open Data award will examine how companies are managing and controlling their data, a topic that has come into focus with the launch of Open Banking and the CDR in Australia last year. The Hall of Fame will commemorate a company that has made a lasting impression on the Australian fintech industry’s overall development. “One of the reasons we adjust the awards on offer every year to ensure they truly represent the remarkable achievements of our sector,” FinTech Australia CEO Rebecca Schot-Guppy said.“The CDR launched in Australia less than a year ago, yet so much work has already been done to install world-leading solutions for consumer and financial data. We want to recognise this. “We also are home to a number of world-leading fintechs that are leading the charge in advertising Australia as a global hub for the sector. The Hall of Fame recognises this, and pits the best against the best.”All but one of the other 19 award categories will return. Due to a lack of entries in 2020, the Excellence in Crowdfunding award will not be running this year.Last year marked FinTech Australia’s first virtual Finnies event, run in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 300 people tuned in during the live event last night. There were 15 registered office parties tied to the event. MasterCard has been named as an event partner. Vocus will again serve as a major sponsor for the event.FinTech Australia is currently taking inquiries for further sponsorships and partnerships.  Media contactHarrison Politesharrison@themediaaccelerator.com.au0409 623 618About FinTech AustraliaFinTech Australia is a national association for the Australian FinTech Startup community.
