FA industry updates Nov 21, 2019

Yesterday we held our Roundtable on the Select Senate Committee Issues Paper in our three live locations and over teleconference, with our members and policy partners.I would like to thank everyone who participated in the discussion and added notes to our submission document; the input was invaluable to craft the first draft.A structured draft will be provided to members by Thursday 28 November, for their comments, feedback and review.The paper will be used by the government to drive policy around a wide variety of issues that affect Fintechs, from the R&D tax incentive to Open Banking and fostering innovation through flexible regulations. FinTech & Regtech Senate Committee

Last week, we shared the Select Senate Committee'sFinTech and RegTechIssues Paperfor consultation. We would now like to collate our members' perspectivesand feedback on the Issues Paper, in order to create our submission.

In order to deliver our submission to the government by 20th December, we propose the following timeline:

  • Friday, 15November - First round of comments due (Completed)
  • Tuesday, 19November3:30-5:00pmAEDT- VC and Teleconference (details below) to discuss key topics in the issues paper (Completed)
  • Thursday, 28November - FA to provide the first draft for comment and review
  • Wednesday, 4December - Comments and review due
  • Monday, 9December - FA to supply the second draft for comment and review
  • Thursday, 12December - Comments are due
  • Wednesday, 18December - Final submission for endorsement
  • Friday, 20December - Submission to be given to the government

E-Invoicing Updates

Key developments for the e-invoicing space over the past 2 weeks:

- The government has announced they will pay e-Invoices for SMEs within 5 days from January 1, 2020-70 Commonwealth agencies attended a workshop in Canberra on the adoption of e-Invoicing by government- Australian Tax Office became a PEPPOL Authority and are now certifying local providers- NSW are conducting a comprehensive e-Invoicing trial with all the major players in Australia so they can pay invoices within 5 days- e-Invoicing officially launched in New Zealand on November 13

For those unclear, sending an invoice by email with PDF attached isDigital Invoicing. e-Invoicing (electronic invoice delivery) is when the accounting systems talk together in real time. Solutions like FinTech Australia Member's Link4 and Promis, allow small businesses using Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks to experience the benefits of e-Invoicing for free.
