Industry Updates: Delegation to the UK and big policy wins!

It's already mid-February and there is a lot of positive noise about fintech in the community, parliament and the papers. The first of what we hope will be policy inroads for the fintech community passed this week being the Treasury Laws Amendment (2018 Measures No 2) Bill 2019. The bill allows for the regulatory sandbox to be expanded and for an increased testing period to help fintechs create a minimum viable product to take to market.  Thank you to everyone that has been involved in getting this important piece of legislation passed.

We have so much on the horizon to look forward to - from the Senate Inquiry hearings to two roundtables with Treasury, Regulators and members, and two new submissions. We have generated significant interest from corporates and fintechs for Finnie awards and Intersekt conference. If you like more information about the sponsorships, reach out to Rehan..

Senate Inquiry

Promising conversations have been circulating regarding the Select Senate Inquiry with numerous mentions in the AFR and The Australian. We continue to be involved in as many roundtables as possible to present our members' views in an informal setting.

We will also present our submission and answer any questions before the Senate on 28 February in Canberra.

RBA's Review into Retail Payments

The review, concerns primarily with card scheme payments, is intended to be broader-ranging and to consider whether there are any gaps in the payments system that should be addressed, as well as whether there are any regulatory issues arising outside of the narrower topic of card paymentsThe review paper released by the RBA can be found here: https://www.rba.gov.au/payments-and-infrastructure/review-of-retail-payments-regulation/pdf/review-of-retail-payments-regulation-issues-paper-nov-2019.pdfWe are working with members for feedback and comments to our submission.
